Love them or loathe them, you can't play a competitive match without a referee. Remember to show some respect to the people who referee your matches. The leagues would not run without them.  


The Regional Referees Officer, Roger Kittle, is here to help develop referees in Yorkshire. He may not be able to referee your match tomorrow, but is able to advise you on setting up referees and scorers courses and will help the development of any Volleyball England registered referees in Yorkshire.

Grade 4 Referees Course

This is a new one day Grade 4 course, the first step into refereeing. It covers both theoretical and practical aspects of refereeing. There are some pre-course tasks, half a day of on-court practice, half a day conducted in a classroom setting and an exam. 

At the end of the day, you will be able to:

    • Interact effectively with teams and match officials
    • Handle pre- and post-match administration, guiding a successful match
    • Understand the FIVB rules
    • Referee a game both as a 1st referee or as a 2nd referee

With this qualification, you will be able to officiate games within regional and local leagues and work towards attaining a Grade 3 Regional qualification.
