1. Apologies
Steve
Mathews – Coaching Co-ordinator (report provided by email)
Mo
Bucksun – Treasurer
Anthony
Laffan North Ridings Eagles.V.C. (unavoidably missed meeting)
Siouxsie Gregory
- Leeds (unavoidably called from meeting).
2. Minutes of the last meeting
Actions
from two previous meetings would be dealt with during the meeting
3. Chairs Update
A new YVA
Development Plan was under development following a useful workshop on 11 June. Go Spike! which is a major
initiative by Volleyball England to increase participation was launched in the
summer with many YVA Clubs running sessions in the summer. Now needed to organise and promote
indoor sessions for recreational players and promote through the Go Spike! website. There is an interactive site on the
website which needs to have as many Yorkshire entries as possible.
There was
a success for YVA players in being selected for the UK School Games and
volleyball would feature in the planned School Games in 2012 and he had
supported a successful pilot for North Yorkshire.
4. Referees Coordinator Update
A Grade 4 Course would be centrally co-ordinated and held in Leeds,
waiting for confirmation of dates – HEYVA had successfully organised their own
course. YVA would support course
as agreed at a previous meeting.
However, there was a shortage of tutors as all involved in refereeing
high level games as shortage of qualified refs (this is self fulfilling if they
don’t run courses!) There was the
possibility of running a course over several dates evening sessions?
Need more referees in YVA to move to higher levels as have several
NVL teams. Help would be provided
to move from 4 to 3R if Steve or Diane Hollows was informed of suitable matches
or occasions.
5. Coaching Coordinator Update
Coaching courses – Only 1 direct enquiry regarding a coaching course all summer for either level 1 or 2. Minimum number for any course ideally is 12. Cannot put any stand alone course on with such a low interest. Course dates are almost impossible to fit into the current calendar because of the fixture lists of both National League and Yorkshire League and prospective clashes for candidates. Would the option of a course over the Christmas period be an option for anybody i.e. 3 days consecutively on 27 - 29 Dec?
Looking at a possibility of 1 day workshops for specific areas of the game- interest?
Anyone who has not registered as a coach for the coming season, please do so ASAP! We need to keep up our coach registration numbers for the region.
It was
reported from the actions at the previous meeting that there were a range of
courses available that could be run by the Regional Coaches Co-ordinator –
these could be found on the EVA website.
It was suggested that a simple web questionnaire could be sent out
gathering information from clubs on need for courses.
ACTION Secretary to send around a
questionnaire on coaching course needs to all clubs.
POST
MEETING NOTE:
There is a Level 1 Coaches course at Catterick on 19-20/11/11
27/11/11 details from Richard Stacey-Chapman at
Volleyball England
A date for the Diary – 10-12 July 2012. We need volunteer coaches to help with the “Go Spike” at the Great Yorkshire Show. This year 4 coaches managed to deliver to over 300 players in 3 days. It would be nice to have at least 2 coaches PER DAY helping next year in return for a free entry worth £22! Some flyers were left over from this year’s event which could be sent out to clubs
6. Treasurer’s Report
No update was presented.
League fees were collected at the meeting and a reminder for rest
to be submitted asap.
7. Youth Development Officer's Report
No report. The Chair
updated that it was hoped to continue to run Regional Squads although funding
had been withdrawn. An
Inter-regional Championship had been confirmed for May 2012
8. Premier League Rules
A new set
of rules with all amendments agreed over the last four years was provided at
the meeting and will be placed on the YVA website. Clubs were reminded about registration processes and need to
text results in a clear fashion after matches. A website that more frequently updates results and a League
Table would be explored for the new season.
9. Yorkshire League Programme
9.1 Men
12 teams so the same structure as
the previous season.
There were two teams promoted into spare places caused by withdrawal
of teams from the previous season – these were Menwith Hill and HEYVA All
Stars. The need for Associations
to be aware of the usual procedures of sending teams to the Area Champions
Trophy after the end of the season was reiterated.
In the Cup there were 14 entries – the Cup would be drawn into
four pools with gaps and teams would hope to be recruited before the Cup
started in January.
9.2 Ladies
With Wakefield Polonia
entering on the night there were likely to be eight Ladies teams in the Premier
League. There were several teams
in the YVA area that did not feel strong enough to commit to the Premier League
so that a Yorkshire Divison 1 would be run with West Yorkshire inviting other
teams to join their Ladies League.
The Cup
draw was made with nine teams and it was hoped to fill the remaining place with
a team from Div 1.
9.3 Juniors
A new way of promoting junior participation was needed as the
League had not run the previous season.
10. Cup Competitions
For
composition see above.
The Cup
Competitions were restructured to four team Pools followed by knock out. In the
Mens three teams going through into Cup, Plate and Shield. For Ladies teams go forward into Cup
and Plate.
The
Cup/Plate/Shield finals day is to be Sunday 22 April 2012. The
venue is to be confirmed.
It was agreed that the Area Champions Trophy/Premier League Play
Off would be held on Sunday 29 April 2012.
11. Area League Updates
11.1 HEYVA
Have new Committee and developing new website hoped to retain
previous League structure.
11.2 West Yorkshire League
Association
Entries due in after the meeting, new teams expected to enter
from previous season
11.3 South Yorkshire League
Association
Six teams likely to enter as per previous season. .
12. Tournaments
Only ‘Nationally’ based event was the LPV junior event which would
be held separately to other tournaments, possibly the first week in July. It would
be a good idea to produce a Regional Calendar so that anybody proposing to run
a tournament in the coming season to let the Exec know as soon as possible then
hopefully we can avoid any clashes and also get a clear picture of what is
happening when.
ACTION:
Secretary to produce Regional Events Calendar to be kept on YVA website
13. Date and Venue of the AGM
To be held on Monday 11 June 2012, venue to be confirmed.
